Food Fight What???
FRIDAY
Let’s be honest here...I for some crazy reason wait until Friday to even think about getting a post together. Focus...Focus That is going to change next week..well maybe...probably...most likely...not, but it does sound like a good idea doesn’t it?
Ok enough about my posting woes and let’s get into this Day late Valentines Contender I have lined up for you folks today. After and I took care of the Ducks I began to scramble to come up with an idea For Food Fight Friday. Earlier in the week a made a funny (to me anyway) Juicing Video that would have been a great contender. Well in my weird mind it was anyway. Then it came to me...
Valentine Banana Blueberry Pancakes
The idea was there, but the ingredients weren’t. So I had to take a quick run to the Andy’s Market and pick up some pancake mix. This is our go to mix, when we do have pancakes or waffles.
Granted this pancake mix is tasty on its own but at the Splatts House we always take it to the next level....Bananas!!!
Take those bananas and smash them up until they look like some processed mushy baby food. They get all slimy and nasty looking but they sure do taste good. I just use a fork and start smashing away.
Once you have a good baby food consistency just dump it into the mix
I almost made a huge mistake!! I typically add cinnamon to the mix, so when I was reaching for the cinnamon I nearly took these pancakes to a level that even I wouldn’t want them to go.....Chili Powder?!???
I reached in the cupboard and grabbed what I thought was cinnamon. The label was facing the opposite direction and hell, it was a brownish colored powder. After taking off the lot I turned the bottle around and...surprise!!!
After this close call, I found out we were out of cinnamon. So, I guess these will just have to be banana infused pancakes and no cinnamon. Oh well what do you do. Adding some water from the Berkey and whisking my way to the perfect texture, this pancake mix is ready.
But First
I have an idea for some Valentine’s Day Fun. What if I add the mix into a blender bottle and use it to pour the mix onto the griddle to create some Valentin’s Day artwork. How accurate can I be and how well will this work? I have no idea but I am always up for attempting something new. Actually, I initially tried a turkey baster but that didn’t work because the suction wasn’t strong enough. My thought was just suck some mix up and slowly squeeze it out on the griddle. Welp, thay Idea was aborted really fast.
Make sure you have the mix at the right consistency, or too runny and not too thick....just right.
If you notice it is a little thick after you put it in the blender bottle, add a little more water and shake the crap out of it.
Now let’s see if I can make this day late Valentine’s Day magic happen shall we? After the griddle is heated up, I dove in and gave these Valentine’s Day artistic pancakes a try. Though the mix was a little thick I proceeded to create my first pancake. After pouring the batter in my desired shape, grabbed a handful of Blueberries and sprinkled them in the middle.
Dang!! I’m Good
Flipping this piece of art was a challenge. My left hand wasn’t doing to good of a job keeping up with my right. The double spatula team flip worked out...OK. Dang left hand messed it up yet I was able to recover and keep this pancake together.
ORDER UP
Now I know this maple syrup isn’t as fresh as what can get but it will just have to do. Drizzle some syrup on this beautiful pancake to give it that sweet shine!!
Now let’s check the approval rating from the first of our guinea pigs. Yep...Kuku tasted and Kuku approved
I think the frozen blueberries add extra moisture to the mix and don’t really let the mix fluff up. They don’t look too pretty but they sure taste good. Okay now let’s attempt another. It’s a little blobby but you can make it out....right??
I wasn’t even paying attention, when o glanced down at my hand from grabbing out the frozen blueberries. They sure know how to leave a mark.
Things tend to get a little weird at the Splatts house, especially when I am behind the spatula. @lil-splatts....I have a special pancake for you....MUAHAHAH
His response...What the HECK Daddy!
Okay enough of the jokes, I had to get focused make Mama-Splatts her special pancake. I got the mix just right but these blueberries just weren’t falling in the right places. With a little nudging and some gentle persuasion, I was able to move the blueberries into position where they somewhat resembled what I wanted them to say.
Not bad for my first attempt at artistic Valentine’s pancakes. They weren’t your big fluffy cakes but the flavor was spot on!!
Most of the time I make way too much batter. So what we do with the leftover batter is make a bunch of smaller pancakes.
Size does matter in this situation and I will tell you why in a minute. After they have cooled down, put them in a ziploc and freeze them.
Then during the week Mama-Splatts can grab them out and heat them up...in the toaster. See, they need to be small enough to fit in the toaster. Cook up some eggs and throw a couple pancakes in the toaster and these kids are off and runnin’ to school.
Thanks again to everyone that joins in of Food Fight Friday week in and week out. It’s people like you that keep this great food flingin’ community Rollin’!!
Thank You
I also want to pass on a little idea we behind the cheese-wheel of the (
,
and I) have been tossing around....A FFF token through Steem-Engine. We haven’t dug too far into it hence why we are just tossing around the idea. Feel free to leave any suggestions or comments below about this idea. In order to make this happen we would need to raise 100 Steem in order to get our very own FFF token before someone else claims it.
Until next time...
