There's a swallow's nest right at our door entrance and every spring we know they're back when we hear little chirping and see the bird poop on the paved entrance below its mud nest that's been there forever.
So, I plan to be as free as a bird, specifically like the swallow, and migrate to warmer climes as soon as winter hits which of course means I'll have a couple of perfectly blissful destinations where family or friends can join us as we gather before the next season's move.
Before I choose these abodes and as I have only ever traveled within the borders of my home country South Africa, I would love to travel the world before I finally settle down in those dream retirement destinations.

I'd be living in my beach cottage cum villa by the sea in my home province of Kwazulu Natal; so close to the ocean that the sound of the waves can lull me to sleep. I want to walk along the long stretches of sandy beach and feel the sand beneath my feet; hubby could stroll down to the fishing waters whenever he felt like it and hopefully catch something for the pan. So it cannot be a tiny cottage, would have to be bigger as we would want family and friends joining us here.

To get away from the intense humidity of sub-tropical Kwazulu Natal, my choice would be the Cape Province, a jacuzzi or small splash pool would be a necessity as it can get really hot here in summer and swimming in the icy Atlantic Ocean is only for the brave!
I would love to stay in a typical fisherman's cottage, similar to the one we stayed in at the small harbour town of Struisbaai, and be able to buy fish straight from the fishing boats.
We could visit so many stunning destinations between the mountains and the sea!

This would see me move to my mountain chalet in the central Drakensberg, as it starts cooling down and I possibly may see an early snowfall. I simply love the beauty and the solitude here; the many quaint places to visit and the very best bakery with the most divine sourdough bread and feather light pastries, plus we can go and listen to the Drakensberg Boys Choir as their school is right here and they hold concerts during the school term.
I would however migrate again once the first snowfall arrives as I simply would not survive that intense cold up in the mountains!

Yep, I would move right back to the large beach cottage I showed you earlier here in my home province of Kwazulu Natal.
We have the very best winters here, chilly at night but lovely sunny days with gorgeous sunrises over the Indian Ocean, the perfect place to be in winter!
There are many things I would like to take with me to these destinations; like my garden...
Friends, family and much much more...but...
