On Friday and I decided to find some new trails on our town trail system. We’re still new here, so exploration is necessary!
Our Ozark town has forest throughout it, with trails that seem like you’re deep in the woods while you’re still in the middle of town. We can take roads or sidewalks to various trailheads that take us to the local shopping village, or to parks, or to other trails through to any other area in town. We don’t have a bus system, we have a trail system!
Since this post is for Friday, I included some fungi pictures from our explorations. I haven’t met a mushroom that doesn’t fascinate me.
Plant identification courtesy of PictureThis app. Super excited they’re putting out a mushroom specific identifier app, though I need to clear some space on my phone before I can download it. 🤦♀️
Polyporaceae
Crusts
Lion’s Mane
We found this adorable stone fairy house under a ledge by a currently dry creek that serves double duty as a seasonal hiking trail. Someone spent a lot of time stacking those rocks!
This sculpture (Elements of the Universe) is in a park in town. It’s wind propelled, and I thought the twirling of the aging copper against the sky and trees was particularly striking. Artist: Lyman Whitaker
The fields are buzzing with bees, moths, and butterflies.
