Folks who know Zeke well also will know that I love Thai food. Sweet and spicy and zesty and bold and exotic. You may recall reviews I have done on covering other Thai, Vietnamese, and soon to be Indian restaurants. Truth be told, I feel like I am doing a disservice to my friend Khon who owns Thai hut which I reviewed here https://tasteem.io/post/22289
I may do a post ranking the Thai Restaurants locally. But lets get on with the review!
This place is simple but nice. No crazy location or decor that would warrant a premium price or anything silly like that.
Here you can see the restaurant and a few of my Jiu Jitsu training buddies. We generally grab some brunch after Saturday training but the regular place was jammed. So, we shook it up and walked a few more steps down the road.
Menu
Starters
The first page boasts appetizers, soup and salad. It is a nice mix of vegetarian, seafood and other tasty treats fairly typical of Thai food place. We almost always go for the Spring Rolls but opted to head straight for the main course as it was lunch.
Main Courses
Here is the jackpot. From the Wok is a nice selection of stir fry options but there are noodle dishes, seafood, a veggie section, Asian curry and a special chef's recommendation section.
Others
The last page of the menu give you a selection of fried rice options, sides, drinks and a modest dessert section. The fried rice meals are not cheap and I am a sucker for coconut rice but generally skip dessert. It will just end up getting in my mouth.
Before we get started, as we continue the search for the best Shirley Temple (because my kids are crazy about them since the cruise) here is the entry. Excellent review from the expert and the presentation was great too! I was behaving after putting a couple good hour on the mats and opted for NO BEER! Gasp!
One of my favourite things about Thai food is the curry! Red curry yellow curry green curry the hotter the better! This delectable specimen is the Beef Massaman Curry with a side of rice. I have had this spicy beast before and the veggies and such are simply a vehicle for the awesome sauce!
Here is the immersive and artistic macro shot that got me a few glances at the restaurant but it is worth it for STEEM.
I had to take this third shot of the same dish though it looks much different. That sauce and most of the Thai/Malaysian sauces are so good that I have to add rice to soak it up so that I don't end up drinking it. All kidding aside, I mix it all right in so that my bowl looks like a car accident but tastes like a symphony.
I know I have a huge vegetarian following for some reason so here is a tantalizing shot of the veggie pad thai. The review on that one is, "Not the best Pad Thai in town but so good that I managed to eat the whole thing despite the size of it." That is about as good as it gets really. Well done.
Zeke's Overall Impression
Being a well-traveled connoisseur in Canadian Asian cuisine, there is some stiff competition for my kudos. I do like a simple and authentic experience and this is definitely in that ballpark. I find the variety, quality, presentation and texture very good here. It is a little shy on the taste compared to my absolute favourites. Not quite spicy enough, and not really tasty enough without dipping into bland. Tame maybe?
Definitely good for someone tiptoeing into Thai food for the first time. I have been here and will go again!!
