This last week I did three runs:
Run 1 - 'Fast' 5K
Run 2 - 5K intervals
Run 3 - 10K group run
And I have a new toy - a Garmin 245, which is an upgrade from my previous Garmin and I must say it's nice to be back to a top notch device rather than relying on my phone and Map my Run, which is great for a free app, don't get me wrong, but it's no comparison to the Garmin which is a far more sophisticated tracker!
Tuesday: 5K short run
Nothing special here, recorded on Map my Run.... 5Ks, exactly the same pace as the same time last week, but this was windier, so I'll take it!
Friday: 5K Intervals
I'd had a couple of comments over the last couple of weeks congratulating me on my 3.30 top pace, but I'd replied and just said that was probably an artefact of inaccurate mapping software, but this was the first run I tracked with my new Garmin and it turns out I really had been hitting that pace after all, WTF >!?!
At this stage of my getting back into running something around 4.10 for longer stretches is going to serve me much better, so I'll get back to that for next week, enough of these silly paces!
I'll build up to this again over several months I think.
10K Long Run
There were only six of us for this as most people were doing the Deal Half Marathon.
A bit better on the friendly banter this week, especially the couple of older blokes, problem was they were a bit to slow for me, but I did have a chat for some of the way at least!
We ran without our usual break in the middle and so I managed to hit 10Ks for the first time in a while which was nice, also a slightly different route back up some alleyways and through an estate as well as along the coast!
Pretty please with this one, I took it easy, that is the nature of a longish run!
I like the idea that the hour Sunday run is just bog standard in the group TBH! It's very motivating! They actually have two groups either side, and a fair few people double up to make it 2 hours!
Running - this week's final thoughts next week's plans
I'm quite happy with my progress and the 'big reveal' on the intervals: that I was really pounding out the pace after all, which explains why I could only go 150 metres rather than my traditional 400 at a saner pace.
This of course means that next week I'm going to have to try some proper 400s - if I can manage 3 at 4.10 I'd be happy with that, very happy, and work up from here!
