DIY Periodic Table of Elements
As a pharmacist, Chemistry is the ABC of our profession. Learning chemistry, means knowing and studying the table of elements by heart as well. We do not simply know the name of the elements but we study everything that we must know about it. The atomic weight, atomic number, valence electrons, freezing point, boiling point, uses, and a lot more.
I could say that is fun simply because it is challenging! For many, it is difficult and tiring. Yes, it really is but guess what, it's worth the shot. Now, you'll be asking, why? Well, let me remind you that Chemistry is the Central Science and the Table of Elements serves as its backbone. Everything around us is about Chemistry. Including you. Also, having knowledge about the elements is very useful. For us pharmacists, knowledge on these things help us to research and formulate drugs, to make lotions, soaps, lipsticks, perfumes, etc. But then, a lot of chemist or scientist have been applying their knowledge in the wrong way like building bombs and nuclear weapons, making biological warfare and a lot of dangerous stuffs. Guess, there's always a bad side on everything.
A simple knowledge on Chemistry can change and save your life. Like getting a knowledge about acids and bases. For example, our bodies use acids and bases. Our stomachs use hydrochloric acid to help digest foods. This strong acid also kills bacteria and helps to keep us from getting sick. Our muscles produce lactic acid when we exercise. Also, our pancreas uses a base called an alkali to help with digestion. These are just a few examples of how the chemistry of bases and acids help our bodies function.
So if I were you, don't be lazy on your Chemistry class or if you're interested in it, go and study now. Look what my other classmates had done. They made a periodic table of elements out of sticky notes! Personally, it's a work of art and it's so cool. That's why I really took a selfie with it. What do you think? Would you like to make one? 😉 There's a lot of amazing things that you can learn from it, I promise. Learning Chemistry is learning almost everything under the sun!
