The United States Aerospace Agency (NASA) finalizes these days the launch of a probe that will come closer than any other to the Sun, the institution reported today.
The Parker probe, named in honor of Eugene Parker, the astrophysicist who developed the theory of supersonic solar winds, will be launched from Cape Canaveral, in the state of Florida (USA), from next August 6, according to a statement from the agency.
The mission will approach 6 million kilometers of the solar surface at a speed that will reach 200 kilometers per second in a mission in which it will analyze the behavior of the star both at a distance and at the place itself.
It will be the first time that a mission enters the solar corona, a region that reaches temperatures far above the surface of the "sun king".
In this sense, Alex Young, an expert scientist at NASA, recalled that they have been "studying the Sun for decades and now" they will go "where the action is."
The project will try to give light to the influences of the Sun, as well as to secrets that only astrophysical theory has dared to answer, such as the acceleration of the solar winds.
