Until today we used to eat potatoes; but scientists will now use them to generate electricity. How Does? Here's the answer:
Researchers at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, aiming to provide electrical power by placing metal devices and light bulbs in potatoes. And they add that even a potato will provide bulb electricity for forty days. Is not it weird? The potato we ate until today will help to enlighten!
In 2010, Haim Rabinowitch decided to do an experiment with his team. First of all, for the potato experiment, the potatoes are boiled and so that the electrons move more easily in the unresisted environment and thus more energy is released. The boiled potatoes were separated from each other and a circuit was formed from the metal layers formed of zinc and copper. This resulted in low voltage electricity; but even this can light a bulb or can charge a phone, says Rabinowitch.
What is the cost of electricity from this cheap food? This energy, which is only 9 dollars per kilowatt hour, is much cheaper than a battery. Why is not the potato use to provide energy? some regions aren't able to eat potatoes, and potatoes some areas are very expensive . There is another reason, however, that scientists say that the potato is also linked to zinc contained in the light period. If we want the potato to last longer, the zinc set in it must be changed over time. This is causing an additional cost. Although the project has been not use for the time being, most physicists insist on the idea.
