Judging from the title of my article, you're probably thinking that it's about adult male virgins who have never had a girlfriend in their life. Well, not exactly. However, because adult male virgins who have never been in the arms of someone of the opposite gender tend to gravitate toward teenage schoolgirls inasmuch as their lack of experience with anyone of the opposite gender makes them feel incompatible with women their own age, this article could apply to them.
What this article concerns is the oppressive nature of American statutory-rape laws and how they cause way too many problems for couples and for families to go unnoticed. We still have almost another month to go before Saint Valentine's Day is here, but I wanted to vent my misgivings about the sex laws pertaining to minors here in the United States.
If you live in a nation that has equally as harsh statutory-rape laws as those of the United States, the contents of this article may also apply to you. In any event, I needed to publish this article, because this topic seldom ever gets talked about whenever anyone brings up the subject of Saint Valentine's Day.
You may be a teenage girl or pre-teenage girl in middle school or high school whose boyfriend was slightly older than what your parents approved of and you won't be able to spend Saint Valentine's day with him, because they pressed criminal charges against him and he's in prison now. You can't even exchange Saint Valentine Day's cards with him through the mail, because some hotheaded judge issued a no-contact order between you and him.
You may be a college student that missed out on a relationship with a teenage schoolgirl and never had the chance to date her despite that she was interested in you, because her parents felt that you were too old for her and they forbade you to see her with the threat that they would have you arrested if you sneaked around with her behind their backs.
You're not going to search for another girlfriend, because you know you'll never feel the same way about anyone else that you feel about this one girl. It's like the lyrics in the song below.
The Song Titled "I've Never Found A Girl" By Eddie Floyd
You may have told this young girl's parents that you were putting sex off until marriage, but they either did not believe you or they thought that something was wrong with you for saying so. It's a no-win situation for you either way.
This same scenario is the saddest one of all, and you know that this young man will be spending Saint Valentine's Day alone. It's probably worse than no girl or woman ever having been interested in him at all.
You may be a teenage girl or pre-teenage girl stuck in a juvenile detention facility, because your parents prosecuted your older boyfriend on a frivolous and malicious statutory-rape charge and you refused to testify against him in court. Therefore, the Assistant District Attorney had you arrested for contempt of court, so you know for sure that you won't be spending Saint Valentine's Day with the love of your life.
Don't we have a terrific judicial system here in the so-called land of milk and honey. And I have wings to fly.
You may be a man who married your so-called "statutory-rape victim"; and because you are on the sex-offender registry as a result, you can't get a decent job and you will not be able to buy your wife the kind of Saint Valentine's Day gift that you would like to buy her inasmuch as you don't make enough money to afford it. It's a travesty of justice in my opinion.
You and your wife may have only been slightly on the opposite sides of the legal age line from each other back when you first fell in love with each other, but the police and the court system didn't care about it. They only wanted to get a conviction against you regardless of whether or not their actions were fair and just.
You may even be a young man who was in an online chat room and you thought that you had met the girl of your dreams. You thought that you were going to be spending Saint Valentine's Day with her. However, you didn't realize that you were about to be entrapped in an online sex-sting operation until you agreed to meet her somewhere, and she even told you that she was of age beforehand.
We can thank Chris Hansen, Internet Crimes Against Children ("I.C.A.C.") investigators, and every other buffoon that calls themselves a "predator" catcher for this same deceptive scenario. The sale of Saint Valentine's Day cards, chocolates, candy, and the likes have been plummeting in recent years, and our wonderful American statutory-rape laws are greatly to blame for it.
Society pressures men to get married and start a family by a certain age. However, the ridiculous sex laws pertaining to teenage minors in our nation throw a monkey wrench in the pathway to those goodies in life. Therefore, this Saint Valentine's Day should be a time for us all to reflect on how broken the statutory-rape laws are here in the United States in that they are way too harsh to serve the ends of justice.
If you don't have anyone to share this Saint Valentine's Day with, you may want to think about writing to your elected officials and asking them to reform the statutory-rape laws in their particular jurisdiction. A good way to do so is to suggest that they push a bill that would downgrade "statutory rape" from a strict-liability offense to an intent offense.
Tell these elected officials that alleged "victims" in statutory-rape cases should never be forced into testifying against their significant other no matter how wide of an age gap there is between both parties. Recommend that these elected officials change the laws so that criminal defense attorneys will be able to educate jurors about the doctrine of jury nullification in their opening statements in statutory-rape trials.
Also, let these elected officials know that alleged victims of "statutory rape" should have the right to refuse to cooperate with police officers in doing rape kits. It's their bodies, and they have the right to say no to government officials in that regard.
If we can get elected officials to listen to us, at least our laws will have a way of weeding the good apples out from the bad ones. Asking elected officials to lower the statutory age of consent in your state jurisdiction might scare them away. However, if you have compelling arguments in support of such a measure, then go ahead and bring it to their attention.
Staying silent and remaining in the shadows are not going to change anything with our nation's broken statutory-rape laws. However, if enough people make enough noise, elected officials will have to do something about it. Otherwise, we can always vote them out of office.
We must not allow for extremists like Chris Hansen, Oprah Winfrey, John Walsh, and others like them to continue controlling our nation's criminal justice system. At the end of the day, these people do not have our best interest at heart.
Saint Valentine's Day may be a traditional holiday, but it should not be limited to traditional couples. Everybody has the right to love whom they love so long as nobody needlessly gets hurt.
