Johann Caspar Simon was born in 1701 in Thuringia and studied theology in 1723. Four years later he was cantor at Württemberg. He later became musical director at Nördlingen. He wrote a set of 14 Preludes and Fugue 1750/51. These are in 7 major and minor keys up to four sharps and four flats. Each of these is a mere two pages. The prelude is in a free, quasi-recitative style which segues into a fugato movement. They are useful as simple voluntaries.
