The Polyvalent Disintegrator
When the Chaos Legion set came out, I remember not having been very impressed by this card.
Its low speed combined with its low health didn’t seem to be a good fit as a resilient tank in the front. Costing 7 mana, the Disintegrator looked a bit like the Warrior Of Peace from the Life splinter, a card I barely encountered in my battles. What I didn’t factor in at the time was the fact that the Disintegrator offers the ability Demoralize while being a Melee monster. This would end up being a huge difference compared to the Warrior Of Peace, not to mention that it is a Neutral card.
In fact, this card wasn’t designed to be placed in the frontline. Its main purpose is to decrease the entire opposite team’s Melee attacks by one. Even though, just having switched from the Beta/Untamed to the Untamed/Chaos starters, a 7 mana cost for a debuff seemed quite expensive when we were used to the Undead Priest or the Goblin Shaman, for example, both coming with the ability Weaken for only 2 and 3 mana cost respectively. Little did I know that the Disintegrator was going to be a card I rely on quite frequently.
Multiple Use Cases
For this week's challenge, I wanted to do something a bit different than usual by presenting different case scenarios where the featured card can shine. The Disintegrator allows for multiple possible strategies, so I thought it would be interesting to cover a few relevant use cases at once.
The “Demoralize + Heal“ Combo
In my most recent post, I’ve highlighted how combining a Double Demoralize with a self-heal tank like Sea Monster could be an effective defensive play in the mid-range mana battles.
In that specific battle, I went with Sea Monster as my main tank while trying to lower the opposition's Melee attacks as much as possible. To do so, I went with a double Demoralize.

The “Demoralize + Shield” Combo
I have been renting Camila Sungazer recently, which led me to force a few plays to test out the Double Demoralize Combo. In the following instance, I ended up losing against Tarsa. The interesting thing to note, however, is that my opponent and I went for a similar strategy; debuffing the opposition’s Melee attacks hopefully down to 1 while putting a tank with Shield in the front to neutralize those 1 Melee attack monsters.
After a few experimental battles, I noticed that going with Tarsa was, in most cases, much better than going with Camila Sungazer, unless it is to take advantage of leveled-up monsters with a 1 BCX summoner. Camila Sungazer being a Legendary summoner allows for the use of more powerful monsters, which is not the case with the base-level Tarsa. That being said, having an additional HP for only one more mana cost is almost always advantageous.

In this battle, I had a 0% chance of winning according to splintertools.com. However, here is why positioning is important. I made a crucial mistake by not putting my low mana monsters at the front first. This could have bought time for my own Living Lava to deal damage from the backline.
A 5% chance of winning is still not much, but at least I would have had a chance!
The "Demoralize + Thorns" Combo
In the Melee Mayhem, the Up Close & Personal or the Super Sneak rulesets, combining the Disintegrator with Mylor Crowling is more often than not a winning strategy. Some opposing monsters might just hit with a single Melee attack but still receive 2 damage from the Thorns. Moreover, by combining Mylor with the “Demoralize + Shield” Combo (cf. Mycelic Infantry for example), we then give ourselves the best chances of optimizing the Thorns damage.

In this battle, we see how effective this strategy can be. By turn 2, Sea Monster was already out despite its Heal ability. We can also easily imagine a similar outcome within the Melee Mayhem ruleset by just inverting the lineup to get Mycelic Infantry at the front.
I hope you’ve learned something or at least, got entertained.
See you all in the next challenge!
