When I was out and about today I bumped into an old work colleagues son and he is literally half the man he was 6 months ago. I didn't recognise him straight away as he used to have like a hunched back appearance, but not quite as bad as Quasimodo in the film.
I obviously complimented him on his massive weight loss over such a short period of time as he was 147 kg and now is just under 100 kg. Basically he has lost a third of his weight or two 25 kg buckets of paint. I always try and work out what that is in some form you can relate to and I know how heavy a bucket of paint is. He reminded me about one of those weight loss programs that you see before and after pictures and you say to yourself bullshit.
The back ground why he went into such serious and drastic weight loss measures was to secure a position on a cruise liner. Being young he wanted to do something he could have fun and travel whilst working at the same time. I think when he went to the interview he received a harsh wake up call as he was told he was too big to work on the boat.

Some people would say that is not right as you can't hurt peoples feelings by being too honest. The reason he was told was they actually liked him and could see him fitting in and told him the truth. Most of the stewards on board have a role to play in the daily activities whether it is running the tennis courts or looking after the tenpin bowling alleys. Having someone who looks fairly sporty and not seriously over weight for me is the right call. There are around 20 applicants for every position and I believe he will now fill one of those posts.
Unfortunately we live in a world where appearances matter first and then only personality. This cruise ship is part of an entertainment industry and people want to see beautiful people whilst on holiday relaxing.
Anyway he is off to do training next month and I am sure they will see what effort he has made which will win him a spot on the cruise. All he has done is exercise twice a day for 10 months and been a little more careful on what he eats. He used a fit bit watch so he always knew how many calories he was burning as that drove him on to just do more and more. He just burnt up more calories than he consumed and did it over a fairly long period of time.
What I have found with people in the past that go ona massive weight loss program is they go for 10 km runs and diet losing the weight quickly and then when you see them again they are bigger. Losing weight too quickly is not the way to do it as it seems to come back quicker.I think most of us have looked at our own BMI index at some point and it has said overweight or worse still obese and that has made us lose weight.
I have seen changes in people and his is so remarkable as he has come out of his shell literally and is more self confident. I found what he has done to be inspiring and if he can do it then anyone can. He used to be lazy and not care about anything and today he has found a purpose to lose weight for something he really wants to do. We have actifit and it is so easy to use this app to help track your exercise that we should all be something each day even if we don't load it up to the site.
