The Toffees striker, Cenk Tosun though saved his side a point on Sunday by drawing in the game against Tottenham, reveals that he would have preferred a heavy defeat than have their team-mate, Andre Gomes sustain this level of injury.
The Everton attacker says he would have preferred a 0-5 loss than seeing the midfielder suffer a horrific ankle injury.
Late into the match against Tottenham on Sunday, Gomes was hit by Son Heung-min and was carried out on a stretcher and straight to hospital. There he was confirmed to have suffered a fracture dislocation of his right ankle.
Watching the distress of the Portugal international on the pitch after his injury, Tosun tried to console him saying that the result of the match was not as important as the welfare of Gomes.
"You win, you draw, you lose but all that doesn’t matter when something like this happens," Tosun wrote on Instagram.
"I wish I didn’t score, I wish we lost 0-5 and this didn’t happen. I know you will come back stronger bro and we will be there for you."
