The United States of America has the highest prison rate in the world. Why is that? There are many issues and laws we can research to find reasons and changes needed in order to correct this illness. It is an illness of the nation that it must incarcerate such a portion of its own people. The prison population is made up of majority American citizens and of course some immigrants from abroad.
How do the prisoners contribute back into the society and pay their debt other than being held in captivity for years, some; decades? There are over 2 million people being held in the American penal institutions across the nation. Surely there is an issue that needs to be addressed. What crimes make up the majority of the prisons. As society grow we can see an increase or reduction in this by changes small laws that make a big impact.
It is well known by the care-takers of the prisons that most of their inmates suffer from some type of mental illness. For some they come into the prisons suffering from some type of mental illness; for others they become mentally ill while in captivity. Why is this? What is the philosophy behind the treatment of human beings while incarcerated? Could prison reform help with the correction of such error?
They found that while greater spending on public inpatient care and greater spending on community mental health both decreased prison populations, the inpatient spending had a greater return on investment
Why are prisons not treated as health facilities for those that are suffering severe mental health conditions. Their treatment cannot be the same as an inmate that crime is much more severe or immoral. If the treatment is overlook for an inmate when is the correction being treated?
There is a mental health crisis in America that leads to many violent outbursts. There are many people in positions of power that are working tirelessly to get laws pass that will allow mental health facilities to treat the ill instead of simply imprisoning them. They cannot be help in this condition simply because correction officers are not trained to deal with them except as prisoners.
