This is an entry for the STEEMIT IRON CHEF Challenge 01 2017. I decided since my garden was so full of green tomatoes that I found a great recipe that you know SURPRISINGLY tastes AMAZING ! It is called Green Tomato Pie. It is an old recipe from the Depression Era, of cooking. Follow me and I Dare you to try it for yourself.
Too many tomatoes that look like this in my garden because of all the rain.
1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
4 1/2 cups sliced and diced green tomatoes
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 Tablespoons of Cornstarch
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 pinch ground nutmeg
1 pinch salt
2 tablespoons butter
Chop up the Tomatoes into small bits like in picture below, give them a splash of water to clean them off fist.
Now throw them into a pot on the stove, and add all the rest of the ingredients and bring to a slight boil stirring constantly.
For that pinch of Nutmeg I like to use fresh and grate it myself.
When it starts to thicken remove from stove top and allow to cool before pouring into your pie pastry. Then cook again in the pie shell for another 35 minutes at 350. Enjoy with a scoop of ice cream.
Taste somewhat similar to apple pie, although some have said it tastes like pumpkin, So you all tell me, after you try it.
Happy Trails and good luck to all my fellow STEEMIT family on their submissions for the contest. HAPPY COOKING
