Last week I announced Free Give-Away Contest for all newer Steemians who joined Steemit from July 1st, 2017 onward. That was the first rule of the contest.
109 members joined the contest but according to the first rule 11 of them were not eligible as they joined Steemit before July 1, 2017, and therefore disqualified.
The second rule was to upvote the post. Here is the screenshot (taken after the post dues) of all the members who upvoted the post.
From remaining 98 members who passed the first rule, 5 of them didn't vote for the post and by that didn't fulfill the second rule what disqualified them as well.
To win the reward, as the final third rule but the main reason for the contest, participants had to answer with easy "YES" or "NO," the simple question: "Are You a Minnow At The Moment?"
From remaining final 93 eligible members, only 14 of them gave the correct answer.
It's an entirely and unfortunately not in a good way, shocking result!
Why I launched this contest?
I have noticed, many new members who arrived at Steemit in past months just started using it the way they thought it would be most successful for them but with little or even any prior checking and learning the core functionality of the system or even less some basic Steemit Rules and Etiquette.
It seems like many are thinking how they find the perfect way how to make a lot of money from thin air or almost nothing. And yes, you are maybe right as with finding and joining Steemit, you really found most advanced and perfect Shuttle with nearly unlimited possibilities to launch you into space!
But what's the use of it if you don't know how to operate with that futuristic Shuttle???
If you don't change that approach, you won't get any further than where are you now. Therefore, my advice to you would be - LEARN STEEMIT and don't be afraid to ask for help and guidance. We were all beginners once!
Not to jump to conclusion, when I said "ask for help" I certainly didn't mean "ask around for votes," as that's among the first things you shouldn't do at all and by any means. That way not only that you wouldn't launch your Steemit Shuttle, but you would more likely bury it.
I also noticed many members are talking about themselves as minnows, although they are not in fact. Most surprising is to hear that from members who are here for two, three, four or even more months, but still don't know their actual status. The question is...
If you don't even know where you are how would you know where are you going or even less how to get there???
So, I would repeat - LEARN STEEMIT!
I know it's not easy to start from scratch neither simple to comprehend all at once, but give yourself time, as ignorance wouldn't bring you anywhere neither would run your Steemit Shuttle to space.
I'm also aware many would simply neglect all such pieces of advice or even totally refuse to follow them, thinking how they already found or would found some easy shortcut. Believe me, there is no such one! Not, on Steemit!
I also know, all of those who by some pure luck, in first weeks or even months, managed to launch somehow their Shuttle a bit off the ground with some out of rules actions, would laugh on all of these. But being off the ground and flying a bit still doesn't mean knowing to operate the Steemit Shuttle. It only means, as higher you have managed to get (the wrong way) the hardest and more painful the crash would be when you fall down. Therefore, again...
Instead of trying to find crashing sideways and shortcuts - LEARN STEEMIT!
So, what determines are you a Minnow or not?
To understand that we would need to know first what kinds of fishes (levels) we have here on Steemit.
According to the SteemitBoard we have:
- Dead Fishes - those who have been inactive for more than 30 days, while inactive means didn't publish any post, didn't write any comment and didn't cast a single vote.
- Red Fishes or Planktons - are those who own between 0 and 999,999 VESTS
- Minnows - are those who own between 1,000,000 and 9,999,999 VESTS
- Dolphins - are those who own between 10,000,000 and 99,999,999 VESTS
- Orcas - are those who own between 100,000,000 and 999,999,999 VESTS
- Whales - are those who own more than 1,000,000,000 VESTS
(More about it you can find in the latest post on this subject under the SteemitBoard official account here on Steemit.)
If you are using Busy.org instead of "Red Fish" your level will be described as "Plankton."
As you may see, your level is NOT determined by your Reputation Level and either not by your Steem Power.
Your level is determined by a number of VESTS that you own!
What are the VESTS?
Officially, a VEST is a unit by which is measured our Steem Power.
Putting it in a simpler and more understandable terminology, I would say that VESTS are the number of (some sort of) "Steemit shares" we hold which will determine the strength and value of our Steem Power.
How we can gain VESTS?
- We can buy VESTS by buying STEEM, bringing them to our Steemit Wallet and by Powering Up transferring them into Steem Power. (According to some my own findings, calculations, and understanding 1 STEEM is approximately worth 2,000 VESTS. But please, don't take it for granted and make your own research.)
- We can collect VESTS for Free just by being active on Steemit platform.
What kind of activity would bring us VESTS?
The shortest answer to that one would be, any and every activity (according to Steemit Community Rules) brings us certain amount of VESTS. Meaning...
- Posting articles!
- Commenting on other members' posts!
- Voting on other members' posts!
- Replying to comments left by other members on our posts!
- Voting on comments left by other members on our posts!
- Replying to comments that other members left on other members' (or our) posts!
- Voting on comments that other members left on other members' (or our) posts!
- Resteeming other members' posts!
Each of above-listed actions would bring us some number of VESTS, by which would be calculated our Steem Power and increased our Voting Power, and accordingly our earning potential.
Where we can check a number of VESTS we are currently holding?
Although it's not the only way and place where you can check how much VESTS you own currently, it's the one I like the most, so I'll share it with you.
SteemitBoard.com is a website/tool created by where you would be, simply by entering your username and hitting enter, redirected to your personal Steemit Board Page where among other interesting and fun things you would see your current level and amount of VESTS you already own.
Now, when we know where and how to check are we Minnows or not, and when we know that Minnows are the members who own between 1,000,000 and 9,999,999 VESTS, lets finally see the results of the last week competition.
Winners & The Results For The Contest: "Are You a Minnow At The Moment?"
As I really didn't expect only 15% of all eligible participants would know the correct answer, I decided to double the announced reward for those 14 members who gave the right answer.
As well, I decided to reward all eligible participants (79 of you) with 0.010 SBD as a small comforting prize and thank you for the participation, and above all, as the motivation to start LEARNING about Steemit!
Therefore, in the transaction memo, I would add the link to this post where, for the beginning, you may find why your answers were wrong.
