I’ve always wondered why steemit doesn’t have a “delete” button. I do understand that it is the blockchain, whatever you post will stay forever, but if you come to think about it… that “delete” button is actually essential.
“Every ending is a new beginning.” as the cliché goes. Hence, we are always given a chance to start anew, with a clean canvas, but with regard to steemit; all the memories of the past stays. I am not against those who are sentimental and really do treasure memories, but admit it or not, the bad ones aren’t always good to keep and hold on to.
Though the saying, “If a door closes, another one opens” is quite true, it got me thinking… if we would always carry all the baggage we’ve gain from the previous door to another,
Isn’t that tiring?
Isn’t that exhausting?
How that does gives us a clean canvas?
Yes, the past is a part of us and that’s one thing we cannot get away from. It molded us, it helped us grow, and it taught us a lot of lessons that we need in order to get through life and the necessity. I do understand that, and I do know the importance of that. But with this “clean canvas” that I am pointing out is basically just about how we will look like in front of the people in the future; the people who we haven’t met yet and can start a new life with.
I know some of you would say, “The right one will accept you for what you are, who you are, and how you are.” But come to think about it again with reality,
Do they?
Would they?
Could they?
With all honesty, have you been so naked and bold that you haven’t hid anything from anyone?
Like the line in one of the Spiderman movie trailer goes, “We all have secrets, the ones we keep, and the ones that are kept from us.” We all know the importance of a secret, right? Now, what is really a secret? I can tell you one thing
“It is self-love.”
Self-love that saved you from all the embarrassment. Self-love that helped you wear confidence. Self-love that picked you up when no one else did.
No matter how much you deny it, we both know that’s the whole truth. In today’s world, people will always be people. And by that I mean, “People will judge no matter or whoever they may be.” that’s the hurtful truth. Now, if you’ve done awful mistakes that’s quite embarrassing for people to know,
Would you really tell or let them know about that mistake you’ve done?
Would you that proud about it regardless what you’ve learned from it?
Or,
Would that special someone be proud of it?
In reality, people are hypocrites.
I am a hypocrite, you are a hypocrite, and we are all a hypocrite.
And if you deny that, well, that makes you a hypocrite.
My point is, no matter how much we love someone there will always be something you have to hide from them. Here’s a quotation that I’ve heard from Penny in the TV Series entitled ‘The Big Bang Theory’ when Leonard told her about a mistake he has done in the past,
“You should not have told me. What I do not know doesn’t hurt.”
And just like here in steemit, if there is a delete button for the blogs we wrote that’s quite embarrassing now, that would really mean a lot for people like me who have been risky in the past believing it was him ‘til the last. We are entitled to make mistakes because that’s how we learn… but wouldn’t it be good if we can hid that mistake and actually just learn from it all by ourselves?
