Last Easter weekend we visited our favorite music festival held in Amsterdam: DGTL
DGTL is a music festival, but besides music it's all about sustainability.
The festival organisation has set their goal to become the first circular festival by 2020.
This year they introduced the first circular food court. A circular food court? Yep, that's right, a circular food court.
All food leftovers, paper cups, cutlery and plates were collected at the "resource collecting point" in the middle of the food court. At this resource collecting point a machine will turn all the waste into compost within 24 hours. The compost will be distributed to participating urban farmers. These urban farmers will use the compost to grow vegetables for next year's festival.
Furthermore there is a deposit on every plastic cup and bottle so they will be returned to the bar. All hard-(plastic)cups are re-used and all plastic bottles are recycled. This system also keeps the festival site clear of litter.
I love to see how a festival is not only about music, but also about sustainability. DGTL has found a good way to generate awareness about sustainability among its visitors.
Besides this, all the food is either vegetarian or vegan and really delicious.
Overall we had a nice weekend full of good music, good food, art, and sustainability!
See you next year DGTL!
