Avocado toast is everywhere these days. But why pay over $10 for a slice of toast that you could so easily re-create at home for way less. The key to the perfect avocado toast is having a good avocado. This graphic from the blog Host The Toast is a great reference to tell if your avocado is ripe and ready to eat.
Once you've selected your perfect avocado, your toast is ready to assemble. I usually do one avocado per piece of bread, but if you don't love a lot of avocado, you can spread out one avocado over two pieces of bread.
First up, toast the bread as much or as little as you like. In a bowl, mash up the avocado with a fork and add in a squeeze of lemon or lime and some garlic powder. Once mashed, spread the avocado mixture evenly over the toast and top with everything bagel seasoning, cilantro, and some hot sauce. Sometimes I like to even pair my toast with a hashbrown for an extra treat!
