I am a serious Food lover and tend to overspend money only for going to restaurants or buying cooking ingredients. However, I had no money to spend when I lived in Buenos Aires and it was really hard to sustain with the cheap and terrible food or delicious but super expensive one.
That's why I was so excited and relieved at the same time when I found this place, called El Banco Rojo; My Favoirte, Cheap and Fabulous restaurant in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
El Banco Rojo means The Red Bench in English
El Banco Rojo is all about the greatness of wraps, sandwiches, salads, falafel and the kebabs. They have hummus, tacos and empanadas as well. One of the things that make this place more special is that they have lamb fillings for the Empanada and Pita bread. Although Buenos Aires is a mini hub for shawarma Middle Eastern-Armenian goodies, it’s not common to find lamb on many menus.
A sandwich called Pan Arabe filled with Lamb, approx $5.5
The Lamb filling and every ingredient were so Fresh and Delicious, and I saw lots of customers ordered the Sandwich to take away. (That's why I ordered one.) But what I want to talk about is their Homemade Burgers. Especially if you want to have a seat and can have beer, the Burgers of El Banco Rojo never betray you. Okay, Let me tell you Three reasons you MUST try this place and the food.
L.B Burger, the basic one. Approx $5
1. Fresh and Tasty
Since El Banco Rojo is one of the most hot and busy spots in San Telmo, they have to keep prepping and refilling their ingredients even during the service. What makes them even busier is that they cook to order. They cook the burger when the burger is ordered. It is Homemade burger with homemade sauce. They do have a weekly burger so that you can have a new and different burger every week!
Weekly burger with Egg, Cheese, Beet, Spicy Mayo... Approx. $6
2. Fabulous Vibe
El Banco Rojo used to be a tiny spot with just a few bar stools. Then they renovated and expanded the restaurant twice because it gets more popular and needs more space for endless customers. When it gets dark, the old town San Telmo seems pretty spooky. You barely can see people walking in the street. But when you open the front door of El Banco Rojo, It is another story, a whole new world. The vibe of the place is young and alive but still cozy. It is Perfect place to have a seat and get full and drunk.
El Banco Rojo moved to a larger space with their Banco Rojos!
3. Budget Friendly
You may think the Price of Argentina would be pretty cheap. Hell No, when speaking about the Food. If you want to have a Nice meal in Buenos Aires, you should bring your wallet heavy. That's why this place came to me as a saviour. The price is super cheap here comparing to the quality of the food. A sandwich or a burger which comes with fresh potato chips is less than $7. A Pint beer is less than $3. Plus, they have a Happy hour from 12 pm to 22 pm! Here is the Menu and you can convert the price. (1 US dollar = 17.5 Argentina Peso, 2017)
It costs no more than $10 to have a great homemade burger with a beear!
I still remember how excited and satisfied I was when I found out this place, even though it was an hour away from my house. El Banco Rojo is not only Fabulous and Cheap. Fresh ingredients, homemade sauces, creative food items, good music in the background – this place is absolutely legit.
