Shoney Dining & Bar - The Best Western Restaurant in Sabah!

This is my first time dining at Shoney Dining & Bar although it is located less than 15 minutes drive from where I stay.

It's not that I do no want to go and try the food there but the restaurant were always packed and one need to make a reservation to dine there (sometime they're all fully booked especially between 6.30 to 8 pm). Fortunately, a friend from Labuan Island came down to Kota Kinabalu and wanted to try the food there hence I make a reservation few days prior her arrival.

There is a reason why I choose this restaurant to be place at The Best Restaurant of The Year contest on Tasteem. Not only because the food is delicious but because this restaurant has won Sabah Food Awards as the best Western Restaurant in Sabah.

THE MENU

Shoney offers both indoor with fully air-conditioned room and outdoor (for smokers). When we arrived at the restaurant, it was already packed inside. Although we had made a reservation, we still need to wait until a table is available for us.

Inside seating are set up like booth type which can fit up to 4 - 5 people at one table. The restaurant is quite small but still offers a good ambience. The only problem is that some guests may encountered diffilculties to push their chair out when they wanted to go to the loo.

WHAT WE'VE ORDERED?

Nachos topped with spice meat sauce, sour cream and cheese topping.

Grilled chicken Caeser's salad.

Braised lamb cutlet with garden salad and grated parmesan.

Grilled salmon with fries, garden salad, mashed potatoes and orange cream sauce.

MY REVIEW OF THE FOOD.

First of all, the portions of our food is huge and sumptuous! We ended up sharing our food and some of it we even 'tapao' back home.

The nachos is served while the cheese is still hot and it is super yummy. The combination of the green chilli makes it even more delightful. It's like a party in my mouth.

I personally don't really like Caeser's salad but this is an exception. Crunchy vegetables and croutons with beef bacon bits is to die for. Their homemade dressing compliments very well with the fresh salad and this is something I will order again in the future.

The braised lamb cutlet was originally served together in lamb creamy sauce but we opted. Still, the cutlet taste delicious, not-too-dry and rich with flavors. It was so tender, we don't even have to struggle to take out the meat from the bones.

And the grilled salmon. My kind of comfort food :). It was perfectly grilled. The meat is juicy and just tender. The orange cream sauce is just to die for. I could just slurp it straight from the bowl. A perfect combination and simply delicious.

Price are considered reasonable and we are happy with all the food served.

THE SERVICE

Why I am sure I will be back to dine at this restaurant? Well, apart from their superb foods, the service from the staff makes it more enjoyable to dine there.

While waiting for our table to be ready, the staff offers us a drink and chairs while waiting despite the peak hours.

The staff were friendly and outgoing too. Attentive and even listened to our special request. They even let us choose our own side orders.
