Jiufen Old Village is probably one of my favorites in Taipei. It is located in the “gold mountains” in Ruifang District of New Taipei.
Jiufen used to be one of the towns in Taipei where gold mining was done but now it is a tourist destination where you can see an old cinema and stores they designed to the place.
I went there twice; the first one was a layover with my colleagues and the second one was with Ralph. It was a cloudy day when I was there (twice!) and it rained after an hour of going around in the village. Perfect weather for the tour I guess?
Old cinema
I was surprised to see the old cinema that they have. They preserved the look of the place and even some posters of the movies.
The place looked somewhat a place where some of the “play” were also shown. Talking about time travel!
The seats are different from what we have now in the cinemas, much closer to your date! (positive thinking!)
The Village over looking
I realy love the view there, too bad it was raining. I love the lanterns that they have and the chilly weather that time. Ralph and I were supposed to have coffee but we decided to go around the village for some souvenirs. I also want him to try the “Stinky Tofu”.
What do you think of the Old Village? Let us know!
All the love, Ralph and Claire
