So, my girlfriend and I went on a lovely December weekend to visit yet another metropolis - Paris. In 2,5 days we were able to see the church of the Sacred Heart coupled with the panorama of the city during the night; the Moulin Rouge area with amazing bars and clubs; the Eiffel tower and the surrounding pedestrian zones; and of course, the largest museum in the world - the Louvre.
On our way to the Louvre, we visited the famous Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighbourhood where many famous writes such as Voltaire and Hemingway used to live. It's full of small cute Cafés, bookshops and super old preserved buildings, and thus very beautiful to walk around.
It takes weeks to see every exhibit properly in this miraculous museum (and that is if you understand what you are looking at). We had one day but we felt enlightened by witnessing all those pieces of art. My favourite one was the Liberty Leading the People painting by Eugène Delacroix commemorating the July Revolution of 1830, which toppled King Charles X of France.
We visited the famous Paris Champs-Élysées Avenue which ends at the Arc de Triomphe. The view was spectacular, even though it was very cold outside so we had to escape into a few stores to get warm. My favourite one was the Disney store. You can see my reaction below.
We had an amazing lunch in a 100 year old restaurant Le Bouillon Chartier, where we got some of the most amazing recipes for a couple of Euros only. The place is so popular you have to wait in line for a free table. But then - imagine being welcomed by a cheese plate and amazing French wine, followed by a great super traditional French main dish. We had to wait with the desert as you can imagine. Picture source.
We finished our weekend getaway in one of the best Cocktail bars in the world - the Dirty Dick, located in the upper part of the city, in the Moulin Rouge area. The cocktails you see below are two of the most tastiest mixed drinks I ever tried. The bar did live to its reputation. As you enter the bar you are amazed with the surroundings which take you straight to the tropics.
See the full cocktail menu here. It's astonishing!
Main question: Was it enough?
Main answer: For a weekend getaway - Yes! We had an awesome time and we can't wait to come back again in Spring.
Here's our recipe in short:
1) Two Flixbus return tickets from Brussels - €25
2) Two nights at an up-town BnB - €100
3) Everything else you need for two days - €175
Cheers and looking forward to your comments!
Stay tuned as our next stop is Dubai & Abu Dhabi ;)
