The drive up to San Gimignano was scenic and winding—exactly what you'd expect from the rolling hills of Tuscany. As we approached the town, its famous towers came into view, giving it a striking silhouette against the skyline. Once inside the walls, we were transported back in time. Brick-lined roads, centuries-old buildings, and an atmosphere thick with history made every step feel like part of a story.
We headed straight to the city center, where we wandered through narrow alleys and lively squares. A visit to the main church offered a peaceful pause and a look at some remarkable art and architecture. But the highlight of the visit had to be the views. After a decent climb up one of the town’s towers, we were treated to sweeping vistas of the Tuscan countryside—rolling vineyards, sun-drenched fields, and distant hilltops that seemed to go on forever.
After soaking in the views, hunger set in. Just as we considered turning back toward a spot we had passed earlier, we stumbled upon a hidden gem—a tiny hole-in-the-wall restaurant serving some of the best pasta we’ve had all trip. The simplicity of the flavors, the fresh ingredients, and the rustic ambiance made it a meal to remember.
We skipped dessert there because we had other plans: gelato from one of the town square’s most popular spots. It didn’t disappoint. Creamy, flavorful, and perfectly refreshing, it was the ideal treat to cap off our afternoon.
Of course, no visit would be complete without some shopping. The shops within the town walls were fun to browse—ranging from local crafts to unique souvenirs that carried the essence of San Gimignano’s rich heritage.
In all, this town offered everything we could ask for: history, architecture, food, views, and charm. San Gimignano is truly a Tuscan treasure, and we’re so glad we took the time to explore it.
