The Socrates Hotel room we are staying in is very spacious though the style could be considered a little dated. It caters for all our needs and for the price is great value for money. It is a typical Greek accommodation and everything is clean and tidy. The beds are very large and comfortable. As we had a real late one and we didn't wake up until 10am this morning.
We came out to the bar area right next to the swimming pool and were greeted by Yana who is in charge of making sure we were treated to a scrumptious breakfast. She takes pride in her work and really tries to make every single little detail perfect.
Breakfast is a mixture of English Breakfast and Greek nibbles. It has a great selection and everything is prepared freshly every morning. The best thing is that breakfast is served from 8.30 until 11am so you can really have a good lie in if you so wish.
The hotel looked very different from last night with everything feeling so bright and happy!! The Socrates Hotel is set between Malia and Stalis in a lovely quiet area that boasts wonderful views of the mountains.
Shortly after the breakfast we went to the hyper market to stock up on snacks, fruits and loads of water! On the way back we stopped by the Malia town center and went for a seafood pasta lunch. Again, the food was simply amazing!
In the evening, we went out for a romantic meal at a restaurant called Drossia, which was recommended by our reception lady Sofia. The family at this awesome restaurant grow their own fresh fruit and vegetables.
As soon as we spotted it, we were immediately enticed by how beautiful the place was! It really stood out from the rest of the eating places in the same area. White washed wood furniture and long straws are the main theme, everything was so nicely decorated.
There are plenty of available spaces to dine outside within it's beautiful vast garden. You can choose a table under the trees, couch on the side or high table with stools in the front area.
On the way to our table, we were given fragrant white flowers freshly picked from the garden tree as well as a helping of fresh mint. The level of hospitality was incredible! I was so impressed!
We had garlic bread with cheese for starters, followed by traditional Mousaka and Lamb Shank as a main dish. The Mousaka was served in an earthenware dish piping hot and the Lamb Shank also served to a very high standard with flavours that tingle the taste buds. Both were just delish!
The house white wine is the best I have tasted in Malia. And the dessert Strawberry Delight was simply to die for!
Before we asked for the bill, the free yogurt dessert and vaki shots were also an unexpected plus! Nobody I know would refuse something like that, lol.
The staff was friendly and keen to make sure that we were well looked after. Very charming and a really warm service from them. Again, the food was excellent and wonderfully presented, definitely a standout dining experience for me. Did I mention that they were also kind enough to offer us a free bagful of their home grown tomatoes on the way out!!
Drossia, traditional Greek food served to an exceptional standard by a friendly, traditionally Greek family. This has to be a "must visit" when in Malia!
