Have you ever tasted Fresh Grilled Octopus in Greece? You must try it when you go to Greece. It is nothing like it in this world - a must eat in Greece!
Wherever we go on the Greek islands, we always see these fresh octopus hanging on the line.
This is in Santorini.
Don't they look delicious?
We see them everywhere as we walk through their islands.
They are begging you to taste them, don't they.
By the end of the day, we succumbed to this and bought the very last one that was on the line in one of the shops here in Santorini.
How long do you think it takes to grill one of these octopus?
About 30 minutes. Sometimes 45 minutes. It really depends on how long the octopus have been left drying under the sun.
This is the process in the Grill Octopus preparation:
- Beat the octopus on a smooth rock
- Rub the octopus on the rock in a circular movement
- Sprinkle with sea water until the tentacles become curly
- Cut the octopus to 12 cm long.
- Grill the pieces over a low-burning charcoal fire.
We watched the chef grilling this for us.
It is grilled over charcoal seasoned with fresh lemon.
In a later post, I will show you a video on how the fishermen traps an octopus. The would beat it and kill it by slicing a nerve between their eyes. Be careful that they will shoot poison out. And then would beat the carcass on a rock 30 or 40 times.
They would then wash each octopus to get them ready to hang them up on clothes lines to get dried under the sun for the whole day.
For now, enjoy this octopus grill with me.
Yum Yum!
Have a good weekend,
Rosa
