The Etna wine region
Etna is a special place. A volcano of over three thousand meters overlooking the sea in Sicily, in the middle of the Mediterranean. A land that has seen the crossroads of cultures in which human and geological history have formed a unique and stratified environment.
Ancientness and modernity intertwine
The uniqueness of the area has not escaped the many wine growers who in recent decades are investing, together with the historic pioneers, giving new life and importance to the wines of this ancient region. By the side of the historical wineries we find a flourish of companies that, with great commitment, year by year are experimenting to find the best interpretation of the territory and its native grapes, mainly "Nerello Mascalese" for reds and "Carricante" for whites.
A special place where special grapes grow
Wineries located in the Etna wine region will surprise you for the elegance and the typicality of the wines.
It was not a mystery to the people of the early twentieth century that in the hands of man, the vine delivered fruit of inestimable value to the slopes of the volcano. The peculiarity of volcanic soils and the microclimate with strong thermal hikes set important scents in grapes.
DOC wines
| The wines produced in this area bear the label of "Etna DOC" an acronym that in Italy certify the quality of wines and food. And if the "Nerello Mascalese" and the "Nerello Cappuccio" give origins to an absolute finesse to the reds, the Carricante is used to make a white wine with the particular light salty flavor that gathers all the scents of the near sea. | |
