There was a time when travelling as a vegan was more difficult than it needed to be due to the mass adoption of meat/dairy into seemingly almost every product range - but now there are ever more options popping up globally that provide truly vegan food and often at high quality and good prices.. Let's check out some of the hot spots.
Berlin, Germany
With over 470 vegan restaurants, the city boasts the world's largest vegan chain supermarket- 'Veganz'. Another highlight is 'Vegan Avenue', which contains entirely vegan foodstores, bars, clothes markets and cafes.
Amsterdam, the Netherlands
Europe's most vegan-friendly city (according to Holidu), check out the Dutch Weed Burger- made with seaweed, not cannabis!
London, England
With over 170 vegan restaurants, London sees its fair share of vegan activity. One of the biggest events is VegFest, where tens of thousands turn out to share discussion and activities regarding veganism.
Milan, Italy
The MiVeg festival has almost the same attendance numbers as London's VegFest, and despite the notions of Milanese fashion involving much cruelty to animals, the city itself boasts over 130 vegan restaurants, including some big ones such as Joia.
Edinburgh, Scotland
In 2016, the city won PETA's 'Most Vegan-friendly City' award, and is home to over 120 vegan restaurants. Check out PETA's Guide to Vegan eating in Edinburgh here.
Ghent, Belgium
The city of Ghent was the first European city to introduce a meat-free day. It may also hold claim to one of the oldest vegan restaurants in Europe, with Aanaajaanaa being founded in the early 1500s (now a vegan hotel).
Hamburg, Germany
Nearly 150 vegan restaurants in Hamburg make it a huge focal point for Germany's vegan population. Indeed, Happenpappen, a huge vegan joint in the city, now has a culinary school.
Strasbourg, France
French focus on cheese makes it difficult to find too many vegan options generally, but Strasbourg has nearly 50 restaurants that buck the trend and offer a wide variety of options.
Gothenburg, Sweden
Sweden's vegan capital has 66 vegan restaurants, but beyond the food side of things, it also has a cruelty-free beauty salon (Eco Linne) and the Swiss vegan fashion chain, THRIVE.
Wishing you well,
