I come closer to enjoy a perfect metalwork craftsmanship of this item. It seems that artistic expression wasn't a foreign term to the maker. Take a look at the precision. It's definitely an object moulded by a cast. A royal emblem is visible here.
An inscription in German next to a salamander. Not sure what it really says. If someone could translate, I'd be thankful!
The salamander in detail. :)
These might be handles for carrying it around. They are profoundly made to resemble fish to the last detail. Impressive.
Another inscription in German. The item was built in times of Austro-Hungarian Empire, I presume. So, it wasn't really imported, as Croatia was a part of it, together with the Czech Republic and a few other neighbouring countries. Wear and tear are quite visible. Was the inscription destroyed deliberately? No idea what it says. Help anyone?
By now you probably figured out what this object is. If not, here is a definite clue.
Creating a canon with such a level of artistic feeling, eh? Not sure what to think, to be honest. So much love in design in the making of a simple weapon made to kill. Am I to observe it from a perspective of death, it probably was seeding, or an art form? Were people making them so beautiful for some other reason except to ease their own conscientiousness for making them at all?
The detail of the flint hole.
The canon/art piece in its entirety, photographed to appear almost romantic.
Today they are made by millions for a definite purpose of killing with no pretence or excuse... It is probably a much worse scenario than finding an excuse to make art out of a weapon like in the old days.
Enjoy your day! :)
