I enter the mansion. An exhibition of small-scale models of the noble dwelling of that period is in here. In the old days of feudalism, Hrvatsko Zagorje county was full of mansions and fortresses belonging to noblemen who ruled their subjects. Some of them were kind people, who understood the needs of commoners, but there were also those who showed no mercy to people on whose work they built wealth and prosperity. This part of the human nature is not much different today. The difference is that the overall human standards rose way higher. Today, the majority of people, who would then be called commoners, are no longer in fear of starvation and cold winters. Well, that part is also debatable.
This is Veliki Tabor, a place I might visit on my motorcycle as a part of this series. Well... not before spring, probably. :) It is a really nice small fortress, almost a castle.
And a few more of them. I should look them up because I don't know their names.
This is a simple one, looks more like a city hall than an old mansion.
This one looks very interesting. High-security options are definitely in place. :)
What I do know is that most of them were playing important defensive roles for the Empire. And were often defended by long swords while wearing reinforced chainmail. When a lord called to arms, his subjects were bound to leave their families and fields and follow him into battles. Today, luckily, most countries do not have compulsory army service. No need to... soon wars will be fought mainly with joysticks. Hope that will diminish collateral civilian casualties...
Or wouldn't it be way better if every single person walking in this beautiful place decides that killing another being is just plain stupid? Especially knowing that he was sent to kill so that the one who sent him could make money.
