this is my first article in steemit i hope you may wonder there are such places to visit in srilanka.you can take a train from colombo pettah station(daily trains) directly to ohiya station.it may take about 8 hours from colombo but the thing is if you dont book the tickets earlier u gonna miss a seat because the train is always full.2 nd class ticket may around about 500 bucks(3$).but you have to book it before 3 weeks of the journey.i took 8.30 p.m night mail train from pettah station and it was about 4a.m when i and my friends got down at ohiya station.
we didn't book any hotels because we wanted to start our journey as soon as sun rises.because there is about 20km to walk in the path what srilankan people called it as devils staircase which you can gather lots of pictures with beautiful waterfalls ,cliffs and surroundings.but there are some affordable and good bungalows which you can book if you are staying more than 1 day.we took pol roti for our breakfast at a rural restaurant in front of the station thew food was yummy so we ordered some noodles for our lunch also.
travel path(devils staircase)
there are around 20 or less people travel daily and very hard to find a foreigner because this travel destination is not famous as other travel places in srilanka, and there is no restaurant or any other service area along the rout so you may pack some food and water before the begin of the journey but you can gather water from clean waterwells if you are running out of water so no need to worry about it.but the food is the case.
our group had around 11 people and 1 female dog who started the journey from ohiya and it travelled us until the end(near 22km),she was there when we got down at ohiya station and she welcomed us by wagging her tale and we have given some biscuits to her so she came with us showing her gratitude.and she has shown up some shortcuts to us
the doggy who came with us
so there are nice scenarios to be photographed as i previously mentioned i may put some of them in here so you may be able to get a idea the place could be.the path is covered with tea estates or pinus trees.most of the villagers are extremely poor and doing work in those estates for 750 bucks(5$) per day.
waterspring in the path
this waterhead is lead to babarakanda falls which is the tallest waterfall in srilanka where you can find along the route its near the 14mile post of devils staircase.it around 240m(790 ft) in height but going to the highest point of this waterfall is strictly prohibited due to some death occurring.but you can enjoy it from the ground level by buying a ticket at a price of 30 per person.you dont need to come along 15 miles(from ohiya) to see this easily u can get a taxi from kalupahana junction which is located balangoda-badulla road for a cost around 500 bucks.(3-4$)

babarakanda waterfall
so it was about 5 p.m when we reached to kalupahana actually we took a taxi from near babarakanda waterfall because some of our guys were very tired of being walking for more than 18 km and some of them had cramps on their legs. so after reaching to kalupahana junction we took a bus to colombo.so that was the end of another beautiful journey, another thing i want to tell you is you can take a offroad vehicle for around 12000 rupees(80$) from kalupahana if you are not fit for hiking or to walk around 18km.i think thats a fair amount of money with the road conditions and you will never regret it after traveling this journey.
if you have any questions about this journey or any other kind of journey in srilanka please put a comment i ll reply as soon as posible
take memories keep only foot prints.
thank you
