Last week I spent a day or three in Tarifa, a small Spanish town as far south as you can get in Europe. This coastal town, located where the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean meet, is a popular place for (kite) surfers.
During the time I spent there, I stayed at a friend's place. And, while she was working, I decided to go for a stroll along the beach, when the weather permitted it. Later, this appeared to be more or less the only hour or two without any rain during my stay.
Taking a look at the picture above, you will notice that the Buddha figures might be Zen and the sky pretty (and) blue, but things have been quite different. As a matter of fact, Tarifa was struck by a tornado, shortly before I arrived. And, during that time, the beach, the dunes and almost all of the beach houses and bars were damaged or destroyed. Not just because of the wind, but also due to water flooding the part of the beach that usually stays dry, taking the sand along with it.
Here's some more pictures of the destruction:
And of Buddha enjoying the kites
And, last but not least, a picture of what later appeared to be a 'Portuguese warship'. A dangerous organism, living in the sea, that can actually kill people. It's beautiful though:
Saludos desde España from a guy who will be going to Portugal pretty soon ( 4 days to go ... )
P.S. Lately, I am becoming more and more like the Buddha figures on this picture. I am hardly stressed out by things that drove me crazy in the past. Daily meditation is definitely starting to pay off.
