Hello, travelers of the @worldmappin community! Today I’m pleased to invite you on a small ornamental trip on the outskirts of Ciego de Ávila, in a little town called "Modesto Reyes". During this walk, I’ll show you several surroundings, structures, and the progress of the route in motion — from my dad’s motorcycle to the garden of a great friend. ¡Hola, viajeros de la comunidad @worldmappin! Hoy tengo el placer de invitarlos a un pequeño viaje ornamental en las afueras de Ciego de Ávila, en un pueblito llamado "Modesto Reyes". Durante este paseo, les mostraré varios alrededores, estructuras y el avances del recorrido en movimiento, desde la moto de mi papá hasta llegar al jardín de una gran amiga. Espero que les guste el paisaje campesino y que disfruten cada uno de estos diseños urbanos y rurales. ¡Acompáñame en este maravilloso recorrido!

To start the journey, let me tell you that nothing was planned. It was a very boring Sunday, with little activity on the streets and no electricity at home. Perfect for going on an outing, jjj. So we decided to get ready, dress up, and go to our friend’s plant nursery in the town of Modesto Reyes. We usually go to buy plants to stock the store, but this time we wanted to break the routine of staying home on the weekend.

Para comenzar la travesía, les cuento que nada estaba previsto. Era un domingo muy aburrido, con poco movimiento en la calle y sin electricidad en el hogar. Perfecto para salir de excursión jjj. Así que decidimos prepararnos, vestirnos e ir al vivero de nuestra amiga en el pueblo de Modesto Reyes. Normalmente vamos a comprar plantas para abastecer la tienda, pero esta vez quisimos salir de la rutina de quedarnos en casa el fin de semana.

My dad's motorcycle is a Jawa 350 with a sidecar, which broke the silence of the afternoon as we set off toward the countryside. It's not just an adventurous trip, but moments that feel important without needing an explanation. We passed by the roundabout; it was quiet, almost empty, a place where time seems to move more slowly and very few vehicles go by. The sun was beating down hard — picture it right at noon — but the movement makes it bearable, thanks to the breeze of fresh air along the way.

El motor de mi papá es una Jawa 350 con sidecar, que rompió el silencio de la tarde mientras arrancábamos rumbo al campo. No es solo un viaje aventurero, sino momentos que se sienten importantes sin necesidad de explicarlos. Pasamos por la rotonda; estaba tranquila, casi vacía, un lugar donde el tiempo parece ir más despacio y apenas circulan vehículos. El sol caía a plomo, imagínense pleno medio día, pero el movimiento lo vuelve soportable, gracias a la brisa del aire fresco en el recorrido.

Don't think taking photos while moving is easy, jjj. Many always came out blurry or off-angle, but I tried to pick the best ones for the post. Still in the town center, you can see the colonial and old buildings — a quiet day, as Sundays tend to be. The sidecar vibrated slightly against the uneven asphalt, and I had to rest my hand on the metal edge, feeling every imperfection of the road as part of the ride.

No crean que hacer fotografías en tránsito es fácil jjj. Siempre quedaban muchas corridas o fuera de ángulos, pero trate de escoger las mejores para presentar el post. Aún en el centro del pueblo, se pueden ver las edificaciones coloniales y antiguas, un día tranquilo como es de ser los domingo. El sidecar me vibraba levemente sobre el asfalto irregular, y tuve que apoyar la mano en el borde metálico, sintiendo cada imperfección del camino como parte del paseo.

From the sidecar, I also see simple houses go by, gardens full of life, and murals like the one of Che Guevara with his phrase "Hasta la Victoria Siempre" that seem to watch over the route with history on the walls. Everything has that peaceful aroma of the Cuban countryside, where time doesn't move forward — it walks slowly. My dad helped by taking it easy, so I could take pictures along the way. He also knows every curve, every pothole, every tree, and every street in the town.

Desde el sidecar también veo pasar casas sencillas, jardines llenos de vida y murales como el de Che Guevara y su frase "Hasta la Victoria Siempre" que parecen vigilar la ruta con historia en las paredes. Todo tiene ese aroma con paz de campo cubano donde el tiempo no avanza, camina lentamente. Mi papá me ayudaba un poco en ir con calma, para poder realizar imágenes del trayecto. Además conoce cada curva, cada bache, cada árbol y cada calle de la ciudad.

I enjoy going out with him. Sometimes he would point things out so I'd have more content for the community — a flamboyant tree in bloom, a corner that brings back a memory for him, or simply the pink flowers that seem to burst against the blue sky. You nod, knowing that moment has already been saved forever. Further ahead, looking at the ServiCentro fuel station, you could tell we were heading out to more rural areas on the outskirts of Ciego de Ávila.

Me gusta salir con él, aveces señalaba cosas, para que tuviera más contenido para la comunidad, un árbol de flamboyán en flor, un rincón que le recuerda algo o simplemente las flores rosadas que parecen estallar contra el cielo azul. Tú asientes, sabiendo que ese momento ya se quedó guardado para siempre. Más adelante, al observar el ServiCentro de combustible se notaba, la salida a zonas más rurales en las afueras de Ciego de Ávila.

The landscape becomes more open. Green fields, simple fences, and the occasional red flower or bushes growing freely by the side of the road. The motorcycle vibrates, the road changes from asphalt to dust, and you know you're almost there. The landscape becomes more intimate, more alive, greener and more tropical.

El paisaje se vuelve más abierto. Campos verdes, cercas sencillas, y alguna que otra flor roja o arbustos que crecen libre al borde del camino. La moto vibra, el camino cambia de asfalto a polvo, y sabes que ya están cerca. El paisaje se vuelve más íntimo, más vivo, más verdoso y tropical.

In the distance, we saw a red mototaxi moving slowly, as if it were also enjoying the ride or maybe running low on charge. My dad slowed down a bit — not out of necessity, but because no one was in a hurry, and he wanted me to capture the moment through my lens. As we passed by, the man waved at us, and we exchanged a few words like, "The sun is scorching, and the heat is unbearable."

Vimos a lo lejos un mototaxi rojo avanzando despacio, como si también estuviera disfrutando el tránsito o quedándose sin carga. Mi papá reduce un poco la velocidad, no por necesidad, sino porque nadie tiene prisa y quería que captara el momento en mi lente. Al pasar, el hombre nos saludo y intercambiamos algunas palabras como 'Esta Caliente el Sol y el calor es insoportable'.

Finally, the sign of our destination: Modesto Reyes. A very simple little town that belongs to the city of Ciego de Ávila. This place is known for having good farmers, and also because it's home to the "Máximo Gómez Báez" University, where I studied for five years to earn my degree in computer science, and where many professionals graduate every year for the country.

Por fin el cartel del destino, Modesto Reyes. Un pueblito bastante sencillo que pertenece a la ciudad Avileña. Este lugar es conocido por tener buenos agricultores y también porque en el esta presente la Universidad "Máximo Gómez Báez" donde también estudie 5 años de carrera informática y se gradúan anualmente muchos profesionales para el país.

Just 300 meters from the garden, you start to see signs of a café and a white building that seems private, very beautiful. At least it brightens up the atmosphere a bit for the locals. As we took the last bend, my dad said to me: "We're close." But I knew it even before we stopped. I had already begun to notice it from the way the motorcycle was slowing down.

A solo 300 metros del jardín, se empieza a ver señales de una cafetería y un centro de color blanco que parece ser privado, muy bonito. Al menos alegra un poco el ambiente para los pobladores del lugar. Al doblar la última curva, mi papá me dijo: "Estamos cerca". Pero yo lo sabía incluso antes de que nos detuviéramos. Ya lo empezaba a notar por cómo disminuía la velocidad de la moto.

We arrived, so all that was left was to turn slowly to the right and go all the way down the path. The wheels touched softer ground, and the sidecar vibrated slightly. I rested my hand, leaned in a little more, and took in the garden—not perfect, but alive, full of details you can't see from afar. Later I’ll make a post dedicated to the garden’s plants. Llegamos, pues solo tocaba girar despacio a la derecha y atravesar el camino hasta el final. Las ruedas tocaban tierra más blanda y el sidecar vibro apenas. Apoye mi mano, me incline un poco más y aprecié el jardín que no es perfecto pero sí vivo, lleno de detalles que no se ven desde lejos. Luego les haré un post dedicado a las plantas del jardín, también se que en hive hay varios amantes de la naturaleza, principalmente la amiga @nikv.
