This Saturday I was lucky to participate in the run of Sanctuary Runners East Meath group and that was great!
This group is free and brings together its members once per two weeks and there are no strict restrictions: everyone chooses to run, walk, jog, and distance that is comfortable for him.
This time the general goal was to cover the distance of 5000 meters and I'm glad I could make it mostly with running (I'm a beginner) :)
The weather was windy and that was the reason why I did not wear this nice blue T-shirt as other members usually do, but it was mostly sunny and it was a real pleasure to run along Laytown Beach inhaling fresh sea air, checking own endurance! And I encourage you to try it if you haven't run before!
Sanctuary Runners East Meath group is a part of solidarity-through-sport initiative that is active across all Ireland
https://sanctuaryrunners.ie/groups/
It was established in 8th of April 2023. So far the members of the group meet to run every two weeks at 10:30 at Laytown beach but I hope that in the near future it will be every week.
As it is written on the official website :
Sanctuary Runners is a solidarity-through-sport initiative that uses running, jogging and walking to bring together asylum seekers, refugees, migrants, and all Irish residents.
I want to say a Big Thank You to all organizers, and volunteers who set up and support such groups! They really help when you start to live in a foreign country and feel alone at new place. Especially when it is far from some big city. Here sports and support with solidarity from local people help a lot!
