At the banks
of the plastic polluted stream, the Earth Rangers received lessons on the
dangers of plastic pollution while they observed some of the impacts of plastic
pollution at the plastic polluted stream site.
They got a chance to see a tree root that is stuck in plastic as well as how plastics have blocked the water way and causing flooding, as well as how plastics are degrading the land and making it infertile for plants to grow.

The Earth Rangers collected more than 2000 plastic bottles from the banks of River Mezam.
The Recycling of Plastic Bottles to produce Tree Nursery Pots
The plastic bottles collected from the banks of River Mezam were then taken to The Greens. At The Greens, the Earth Rangers embarked in the recycling of the plastic bottles to produce Tree Nursery Pots.
The Earth Rangers goals is to produce 20,000Tree Nursery pots from 10,000 plastic bottles and these tree nursery pots will be used to nurse 20,000Trees which will be planted in the Bamenda Highlands Forests of the North West Region next year.
Two simple steps to make Recycled Plastic Bottle Nursery Pots
- Cut the Plastic Bottle into two halves using a saw
- Perforate it using a Soldering iron or Nails and a Hammer.
250 Tree Nursery pots were made from the plastic bottles and the Earth Rangers immediately started using the nursery pots made to nurse trees.
Why are Earth Rangers making tree nursery pots from plastic bottles?
- To clean-up the environment (clean-up the plastic pollution)
- It’s cheaper to produce recycled plastic bottle nursery pots than buying plastic nursery bags
- Tree nursery pots made from plastic bottles are more durable than the plastic papers that people use to nurse trees
- Trees nursed grown in recycled plastic bottle nursery pots are easier and safer to transport than trees grown in plastic paper nursery pots.
- It’s easier to water trees grown in recycled plastic bottle nursery pots than trees grown in plastic paper pots.
- The recycled plastic bottle nursery pots are more effective in containing and conserving the soil than the plastic paper nursery pots that most people use.
- To learn how to transform trash to treasure.
