Full disclosure
Yesterday I did a post about Dash. I was going to do a post about ICOs today however I thought before I start going off on cryptocurrencies, it's only right to let people know the shape of my cryptocurrency portfolio.
So in today's video I give a breakdown of the top Cryptocurrencies I'm holding at the moment:
My current portfolio looks something like this
- Bitcoin 60%
- Ethereum 10%
- EOS 10%
- Bitcoin Cash 6%
Then it tails off
- Litecoin 3.5%
- Waves 3.5%
- Dash 1.5%
- Gbyte 1.5%
- 4% in others (ZEN/ ZCL/ XCP/ OMG/ ETC/ BAT/ AMP...)
Good/ bad breakdown
Bitcoin
The Bad:
It don't see Bitcoin as a medium of exchange. The governance is also a sticking point for me.
The Good:
Bitcoin is proving a solid store of value. It has a dominant network effect. It's All Other Crypto vs BTC at the moment and for the foreseeable future. I like to keep between 50%-80% of my portfolio in BTC
Ethereum
The Bad:
I'm still unconvinced by the technology and apps delivered to date. Lots of promise about what will be delivered.
The Good:
I see platforms that apps/ products/ services are built on as the future of the technology. Ethereum is the market leader. It's a juggernaut, in terms of backing and community. For all my reservations it cannot be ignored.
EOS
The Bad:
I personally hate the ICO. I've said before I think it is a crapshoot. I feel for those who bought at the initial 5 day ICO, let alone those that bought when the price was approaching $5. Who knows, I could be feeling sorry for myself in a few months time!
The Good:
In an inflated market, EOS has room to grow at current prices. CTO, Dan Larmier (love him or loathe him) has a proven track record for delivering blockchain technology. See Bitshares and STEEM in particular. As I see platforms being the future, EOS has ingredients of a potential market leader... let's see what BlockOne delivers. Still a risky one, I'm going with gut instinct on this.
Bitcoin Cash
I've no solid opinion on Bitcoin Cash. I got the coins in the fork and will hold approx. 1:1 with BTC so I don't need to be concerned with the politics of which comes out on top.
Omission
STEEM
I've excluded STEEM. Firstly because it is easy to work out the value of the whole portfolio from it. Secondly, I don't see STEEM the same as the other cryptocurrencies. Time spent on Steemit is actually turning into a hobby in and of itself... I never saw myself blogging and vlogging almost daily (for any amount of money!)... yet here I am, 'going with the flow.'
