Compared to last year, the Splatts garden has really started to take shape. Even though we have been really busy with the ducklings, (building their enclosure and house) we managed to get some fruits and veggies growing.
It ain’t no Homestead
But it will just have to do...
For now
😉
Come on
Let’s take a Walk Through the Splatts Garden
Upon entering the gate, which main purpose is to keep our dog from eating everything and dropping bombs back there, in the raised bed to the right are...
Strawberries
Eventually we would like to have this whole box full of them but we need to make a place for the other plants we have growing in this box.
Cucumbers
So far 4 have sprouted nicely and we have an additional 6 more that are just started to burst forth out of the dirt. They are planted close to the fence so that they can grow up the fence for easy pickens
To the left of the gate is another 12 foot by 3 foot box. This holds the root style veggies.
Carrots
Not sure how many are in there but I think there is a lot. We planted half a row then waited 2 weeks and planted the other half. We are hoping this will cut back from one big harvest and make a couple small ones.
In the same box, in another row we have popping out of the soil...
Beets Beets Tasty Beets
We did the same process with the Beets.
We mainly juice our Beets but with a good quantity I’m sure we can find some other way to enjoy these tasty beets.
We have got 2 out of the 3 main ingredients for making our favorite juice. Soon we will be able to get all the ingredients right from our back yard to make the amazing ABC juice. (Apple, beet carrot)
Once one of the 4 apple trees we have start producing, we will be in business.
This apple tree must be crossbred with the beanstalk from Jack and the Beanstalk
Poor guy is a little top heavy with all those leaves. This one is double the size of the other 3. We haven’t done anything different with all 4 trees, this one is just a freak of nature I guess.
After you pass by the Beet and Carrot box you can’t help but be attacked by the Marion Blackberry
This beast of a blackberry bush puts of so much fruit it is insane. Last year we just let it go crazy and grow everywhere. This year I am goin to keep the bottom trimmed and attempt to shape the vines to form its own trellis. I kept 5 main vines from last year and made the basic shape and it seems to have made a big difference in the spacing of the vines.
As you make your way across the back fence we have a few trees lined up.
From left to right
Apple/beanstalk—Apricot—Apple and
Blueberry
Well it’s not a tree but it’s in a pot so that is where it is goin to be.
This apricot tree really took of on a growth spurt this year.
The first and only fruit produced by this Apricot tree after 5 years of growing from a seed.
Happy Little Tree
Ya apricot trees are messy but the delicious fruit is so worth the mess.
🤤🤤
The 2 Blueberry bushes are producing nicely again this year.
Mama Splatts and I think there is a little less than last year. We might have to do a little research and see why that would happen.
After having Raspberries grow out from under the shed last year, we transplanted them behind the fence in the garden. I think our dog Sadie ate most of them last year.
A couple of them aren’t looking too good but we will just let them do their thing and see what happens.
This little sprout we picked and transplanted is doing really well
Oh look
What do you know
Another Raspberry
Growing out from under the shed.
As long as they keep growing I will keep planting. Well as long as I have room too. Maybe I will check with the neighbors and see is they want any.
Well you just made a full lap with me around the Splatts Garden. I’m exhausted
😜😜
It doesn’t take long to make a lap around the garden but it is great to see the hard work paying off and getting some fresh air. Can’t wait to enjoy the ‘fruits’ of our labor
😉😉
Thanks for taking a Walk With Me through
The Splatts Garden
It ain’t big
But you gotta start somewhere.
Until next time
Steem on
