What are the biggest complaints and problems people have with a Whole Food Plant Based diet?
- “I don’t know how to start.”
- “I don’t have time to cook.”
- “I can’t do it.”
- “It’s restrictive, flavorless, and any other excuse to not change.”
- “I don’t have or can’t afford the ingredients.”
What about those websites that create complex recipes with a multitude of ingredients? Too many recipes create foods that “taste like the things you have to give up to be WFPB”. Sometimes these sites do more harm than good for someone looking to make a change.
I say keep it simple. Eat a banana, an apple, a tomato. You can’t go wrong with raw, fresh vegetables or fruit. Boil a bag of potatoes. Put them in the fridge. When you are hungry, slice 1 or 2, sprinkle on some herbs, with a dab of hummus, and eat. Keep a bowl of a whole grain already cooked. Add some vegetables. Warm it up and eat. A handful of nuts make a good, quick snack. Find what you like, wash, rinse, repeat.
Don’t make it complicated. Eat a majority of your food in its original wrapper or with minimal processing. Save the complex recipes for special occasions, or when you have the time and money.
You can’t make a change without making changes. You taste buds will adapt. The most important thing is to get started
