Part two of - what does this mean to you?

Yesterday we looked at what the word Football meant to people from around the world. It was quite interesting to read the responses.

Today we are looking at a different word.

In many cultures food plays a very important role, while for some, it is just a means of sustenance.

So today let’s talk about the main meal of the day (which I’ll call dinner).

So what does the word:

Dinner

Mean to you?

Also, when do you eat your main meal? In the evening, at noon, during the afternoon?
What is its importance in your life?
Do you eat merely to live, or is this an important social time for you?

For me, dinner, and food in general, used to be an interruption to my day. I ate food because I had to. I liked some of it better than others, but if I could have figured out a way to photosynthesise, I would have been quite happy to give up eating all together.

Then I met my wife.

She is from Crete, and being Greek, she knows a thing or two about good food. And so my education in appreciating good food began.

Now, dinner is a time spent with her enjoying her cooking and her company. It is usually a relaxed time at the dining table, where I ask her what I’m eating and she won’t tell me until I’ve tried it.

She keeps trying to squeeze squid and octopus in there somehow!

So for me now, dinner means a time of gastronomic adventure and discovery, and precious time spent with my wife.
