Just when you think you’ve found your whisky for life, another one comes along and steals your fancy!
After honing in on the Islay single malt age statement expressions of Lagavulin 16 and other such remarkable spirits, I thought that I had settled on more mellow, seasoned veterans of peaty, time-roasted, earthy warmth. I was wrong.
Though Lagavulin’s trademark line is “time takes out the fire but leaves in the warmth,” I have found today that the punch of wild, youthful yet wisened Islay fire is something that I also need in a whisky!
Enter: Bruichladdich’s Port Charlotte Scottish Barley. As my friend calls it, I give this “fuckin’ rocket fuel from Islay,” peaty little face-puncher at least an 8 out of 10.
I hope you’ll enjoy my brief video whisky review, and leave your impressions in the comments!
