Plans for a new Whole Foods store in West Seattle were scrubbed this week by the Austin, Texas-based grocer.
The supermarket was to be the anchor tenant in the 68,617-square-foot Whittaker development at the southwest corner of Southwest Alaska Street and Fauntleroy Way Southwest.
Whole Foods said the move was “part of a careful evaluation of our growth strategy,” but didn’t offer further details in an emailed statemen.The company developing the building, weingarten Realty, is working with Whole Foods to come up with a replacement for the 41,000-square-foot space,Whole Foods has seen a 3 percent decline in traffic in the last year and a half, according to a report in MarketWatch. That translates to about 14 million customers and the Barclays note on the drop, it called it “staggering.”
