Hello Steemit Friends,
Well, springtime is in full bloom with summer around the corner, it is time to enjoy refreshing white wine. My go-to white wine is pinot grigio. I got the chance to try Rainstorm Pinot Gris out of Oregon. First question is if pinot gris is the same as pinot grigio. The answer is yes they are made from the same white grape. The skin of this grape is grayish/brownish pink. Gris translates to gray in French.
The company website www.rainstormwines.com/pinot-gris had some interesting information on the harvesting and fermenting process. I think the most interesting piece was that they harvest the grapes by hand in order to prevent the skins being cut which can happen with machine harvesting.
The pinot gris was dry but did not taste oaky (which is good since no oak was used in the fermentation process). It was acidic, with some fruitiness. For me it was more dry than fruity and not as refreshing as I like a pinot grigio to be, especially on a hot summer day.
Overall the Rainstorm Pinot Gris was reasonable priced around $14.00 USD retail. The wine was not bad, I wouldn’t turn it down, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy more.
Do you drink white wine? What is your favorite?
