One resolution I really want to follow through with this year is improving my diet.
Not because I’m sick, and not because something is wrong with my body right now—but because I want to stay that way. I’ve been thinking more about the kind of life I want in the long run: one where I’m still energetic, still able to work hard, still able to enjoy simple things without my health becoming a constant worry.
I want to focus on food groups that strengthen my immunity and support my vital organs. It feels like a quiet form of self-respect—choosing to take care of my future self while I still have the chance.
The biggest challenge for me is sugar.
I like sweet food, and it’s easy to treat it like a harmless reward after a long day. But my family has a history of diabetes, and that’s a road I don’t want to walk down if I can prevent it. I know I can’t control everything in life, but this is one of the things I can control—at least, little by little.
“Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.” — Michael Pollan
So I’m not aiming for perfection. I’m aiming for balance.
Less sugary drinks. Fewer random snacks. More real meals that actually keep me full. More water. More fruits and vegetables that don’t come with guilt attached. If I still want something sweet, I’ll learn to treat it like a choice—not a habit.
Small decisions, repeated daily, can change the direction of a whole year. And hopefully, a whole life.
