Os decía que es un punto clave en la peregrinación a la Peña de Francia, ya que se encuentra a sólo 18 Km, y hoy quiero mostraros también sus hermosos paisajes. Una vez que dejamos el centro del pueblo y empezamos a subir la montaña nos zambullimos en la calma de los pinos y los robles. Muchos salmantinos recurren a la Peña de Francia para gozar de sus privilegiadas vistas y disfrutar de la tranquilidad que se respira alrededor del santuario.

I told you that it is a key point in the pilgrimage to the Peña de Francia, which it is only 18 km away, and today I want to show you its beautiful landscapes. Once we left the town center and started climbing the mountain we plunged into the calm of the pines and oaks. Many people from Salamanca go to the Peña de Francia to enjoy its spectacular views and the tranquility around the sanctuary.

La primera parada en el ascenso a los 1.727 metros, sobre todo para los muchos senderistas que hacen el camino a pie, es el Paso de los Lobos, el primer mirador que nos encontraremos. Según vayamos avanzando en nuestro camino el paisaje se irá volviendo más austero, y podremos contemplar a sus habitantes, las cabras montesas, sobre el terreno rocoso.

The first stop on the ascent to 1,727 meters, especially for the many hikers that make the way on foot, is the Paso de los Lobos, the first lookout that we will find. As we move along our path the landscape will become more austere, and we will be able to contemplate its inhabitants, the mountain goats, on the rocky terrain.

Pero no son estas las únicas habitantes de este lugar mágico y espiritual. Los monjes Dominicos habitan este enclave. En los duros y fríos inviernos, en los que la subida a la montaña se complica por las nevadas, ellos se ven incomunicados entre sus muros de piedra. Quizá puedas toparte con ellos en la capilla en la que adoran a su Virgen Negra, La Virgen de la Peña de Francia, por la que tienen una gran devoción en Salamanca y en Extremadura.

But these are not the only inhabitants of this magical and spiritual place. Dominican monks inhabit this enclave. In hard and cold winters, in which the ascent to the mountain is made difficult by snow, they are isolated within their stone walls. Perhaps you can find them in the chapel where they worship their Black Virgin, La Virgen de la Peña de Francia, who the people of Salamanca and Extremadura are greatly devoted to.

Bonita panorámica, ¿verdad? Merece la pena la subida, ya sea a pie o en coche, para encontrarnos en este espacio de libertad, tranquilidad y sosiego que da el silencio de la montaña.

Beautiful panoramic, right? It is worth reaching, either on foot or by car, to find ourselves in this space of freedom and tranquility that the silence of the mountain offers.
