RE: Armadillos & Leprosy - IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW
I got back from a two-week visit to our place in Panama last week. While we were there I was told that one of our neighbors had killed, and was grilling, an armadillo. Someone suggested walking over there

RE: Hurricane Season? - Not in Chile, Where We Never Have Them
I hear you. Boquete is nice enough but (and I may get flak for this but here it is...) I'm not giving up my life in the US to go live with a bunch of Americans... Even if the climate is somewhat nicer

RE: Panama Cost of Living
I lived in Panama (I was in the Navy) in the early 90s and I'm moving back in 2017, though not to Panama City. I can't believe how expensive rents are in the city. It's a shame, really. And the traffic

RE: Hurricane Season? - Not in Chile, Where We Never Have Them
Panama, where we are escaping to, is the same way. No hurricanes, plenty of earthquakes, always the possibility of a volcano. I visited Chile (for a music festival) many years ago and loved it. Reminds

RE: Jackfruit! - One of These Wonderful Tasting Fruits Could Serve a Banquet
Yeah, I'll definitely get a photo next time or have a family member get me a photo. I'm interested to research it and find out. Where our house is (or, really, the house we had built for her mom) on about

RE: Movable Rainwater Collection System for the Garden and Emergency Supply
Yeah. If I had any kind of background in the construction arts or engineering I'd start a rain-water catchment installation and consulting firm there and die a bazillionaire.

RE: Jackfruit! - One of These Wonderful Tasting Fruits Could Serve a Banquet
This is one of the fruits we have on our half acre in Panama, I think. They call it chama and no one up there seems to like it. I think it's jackfruit, rather than breadfruit but I'll have to look into

RE: Hello Steemit, I'm Jim -- A New Englander Suburbanite and soon-to-be Panamanian Cowboy
Yeah. There's a ton to do. We don't have internet access yet, but I'm told it's do-able with a satellite dish. There is actually a Canadian with a really nice place, big orchard, maybe a mile up the hill

RE: Movable Rainwater Collection System for the Garden and Emergency Supply
Good stuff. We are moving to a small village in Panama and it blows my mind there that no one (I look) harvests rooftop rainwater there. In the particular village we are relocating to the government turns

Other than cost, is there any reason it would have to be NASA (or any other national or group of national space agencies) to build it?

RE: Restoring Grasslands with Cattle - Long Considered the Problem, Well Managed Ruminants are Actually the Cure
Nope. I've read some of Salatin's stuff but mostly just seen a few videos. I know how highly regarded he is, though. Our land, shown above, is very hilly. The fencing, paddocks and whatnot will be problematic.

Well, we're about maxed out in terms of head per acre so, at the very least, I would need to scale back on the number of cattle in order to some food forest stuff. I'd like to put in some swales and other

It's nice to see some permaculture-related stuff on here. We have a small , completely free-range cattle ranching operation in Panama and I'm not sure if I want to keep it going , or not, when we move
