Limit Yourself to Gain Success!

For years we have heard about breaking out of our limits to be successful. But, I have realized that sometimes it is absolutely necessary to limit ourselves to have become successful.

But aren’t limits the enemies? Aren’t limits evil?

Let’s know the difference between the “good” and the “bad” limits:

The Negative & Positive Limits

The negative limitations are the ones that are always talked about. They are the evil limitations that won’t let you succeed, not matter what. These are unconsciously ingrained self-limitations. These limitations are the result of what we go through in our developmental years, what we face in society, and what is dictated to us. Whatever the reason for these, you most probably didn’t consciously choose to have these self-defeating limitations as part of how you behave. These limitations are what we unconsciously get used to, and these are the limitations that are harmful to our success. They cost us our free spirit and inability to fulfill our potential. And it makes sense to automatically feel a negative vibe at the mention of limits.

But, with all this being said, there are actually limits that are positive. It definitely sounds crazy! All through my life I’ve heard and read each and every motivational saying mentions these: “There are no limits”, “Don’t limit yourself”, and so many more. All of which are giving us a perspective of a life without limits, in which we can do anything. This is true, to a certain degree. You see, the problem with this perspective is that it avoids or disregards criticism; because criticism is a “limitation”. So, with this perspective, any constructive criticism is dismissed as a form of limit; and with no criticism, there is no progress.

But this is just a small part of the problem. The real problem is when you see ALL limits as evil. The truth is, some limits are actually good for us. Yes, we can do anything we want, but we can’t do everything. This is something that the “no limit” mindset doesn’t like. A no limit perspective dismisses all limits and boundaries without evaluation. Well, there is an irony in that: The “no limit” mindset has actually limited us.

What are some of the Positive Limitations?

It is good go realize that some limitations are positive and necessary. They help us achieve greater levels of success than we could have without them:

· Limit yourself by only focusing on one direction for improvement each week

· Limit yourself to working on only the most important task every morning

· Limit yourself to the number of projects you will work on at a time

· Limit yourself by not working on the weekends I’m sure you can implement other positive limits in your life, in a way that serves and empowers you.

The point is, not all limits are bad. What matters is what you do with them; and more importantly, that you choose your limits, and they don’t choose you.
