There are many factors contributing to the poverty of the continent, but ignorance is an important one. Arguably it enables a lot of the other secondary issues that we often talk about.

A short term nuisance for a long term gain. Kind of like changing from imperial to the metric system. Some countries have changed, but still use the old system in everyday life, generations later!
