Di kawasan pantai barat Provinsi Aceh terdapat sejumlah warga yang memiliki mata biru. Sebagian dari mereka juga berkulit putih, berhidung mancung dan berambut kuning. Persis seperti masyarakat eropa pada umumnya. Sebelum bencana tsunami melanda Aceh pada akhbir tahun 2004 lalu, kelompok warga bermata biru ini banyak ditemukan di kawasan Lamno, kabupaten Aceh Jaya.

Namun karena kawasan Lamno merupakan salah satau kawasan terdampak tsunami terparah, kelompok masyarakat bermata biru ini pun semakin sedikit. Di setiap kampung kini hanya menyisakan satu keluarga bermata biru.

Beberapa referensi menuliskan, masyarakat Aceh bermata biru ini merupakan keturunan tentara Portugis yang terdampar di Kerajaan Meureuhom Daya sekitar abad ke-14. Awalnya para tentara yang kalah perang di Malaka ini menjadi tawanan tentara kerajaan. Namun Raja Meureuhom Daya kemudian membebaskan mereka, dan diizinkan membaur bersama masyarakat.

Bekas tentara Portugis ini bahkan diajarkan cara bercocok tanam dan hal lain yang berkaitan dengan kebiasaan warga setempat. Perlahan, mereka pun kemudian memeluk agama Islam dan menikahi penduduk setempat.

Sementara versi lain menyebutkan pada tahun 1519 Portugis mengirimkan pasukannya untuk menjajah Aceh. Pada saat itu, banyak dari mereka yang kemudian menikahi gadis setempat.

Saat ini, si mata biru yang ada di Aceh ini merupakan keturunan ke-8 sejak generasi pertama yang menjadi kakek buyut mereka. Pascatsunami banyak warga dari luar daerah bahkan juga dari negeri jiran seperti dari Malaysia yang datang ke Lamno, Aceh Jaya untuk mencari jejak si mata biru.

Walau memiliki perbedaan secara fisik dengan masyarakat Aceh pada umumnya, namun si mata biru ini tetap menjadi bagian dari warga setempat. Mereka juga menjalani kehidupan seperti masyarakat Aceh pada umumnya.
