The theory of plate movement is known by the name of Plate Tectonic Theory. In theory, it is assumed that the entire planet earth is geologically a unity consisting of plates (imagine like a boiled egg which skin is cracked into several parts). Some of the plates are mutually distant, the two contiguous continental plates can lead to folding which is then lifted into the mountains.
