Here's my selection of songs representing E...
Elton John - I Guess That's Why They Call it the Blues (1983)
A very catchy song for something that should be depressing! The video has a good ending though, which makes up for it. The style is not very 80s, really, but older, as the video hints.
Apparently, Stevie Wonder is the one on harmonica in this song which peaked at #2 on the adult contemporary chart for four weeks. As always, Elton's piano skills really shine in this song.
Enrique Iglesias - El Perdedor (2013)
Here is a heart-breaking, but beautiful ballad (and equally beautiful video) which needs very little translation even if you don't speak very good Spanish. Perhaps the impact the song has on the object of his affections is a final piece of healing - or maybe it shows that the story hasn't ended, unlike the song...
I intended to only do one non-English song per set, but this is what I felt like sharing today - a joik from Norway.
Ella Marie Hætta Isaksen - Ozat (Stjernekamp 2018)
I previously featured her in my joik post which has more of this amazing style of music which was discouraged by early missionaries as they thought it was spellcraft. And perhaps it is - as the music is more about meditative sounds than about lyrics.
I love listening to this form of music. I can imagine that it hasn't changed that much in the past 1000 years or more.
